Full description

Marvel at modern art by Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock with a full-day (single entrance) ticket to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection on the Grand Canal of Venice.

Discover the most important museum of European and American art of the twentieth century in Italy and the personal collection of the legendary patron of the arts Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979), niece of Solomon R. Guggenheim.

Take in masterpieces from art styles such as Cubism, Abstraction, Surrealism, early American Abstract Expressionism, and postwar European and American paintings and sculptures.

Explore the museum at your own pace to find masterpieces by Jean Arp, Umberto Boccioni, Alexander Calder, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, René Magritte, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Gino Severini, Clyfford Still, and Emilio Vedova, and many more.

Housed in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni on the Grand Canal in Venice where Guggenheim spent the last thirty years of her life, the museum also hosts a sculpture garden. Take a stroll to admire the works by Alberto Giacometti, Mario Merz, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Germaine Richier, among others.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection also exhibits the Hannelore B. and Rudolph B. Collection of European and American art that was added to the collection of the Guggenheim Foundation in Venice in 2012. In addition, admire exhibitions that are organized and presented in the temporary exhibition galleries of the museum.

A terrific permanent collection of early/mid 20thC masterpieces by Peggy’s many friends and lovers. There’s also currently (summer 2022) a stupendous and extensive Surrealist exhibition: the Max Ernst’s especially! Ticketing is poor organised. If you turn up without one you gave a long queue outside, often in the baking sunshine. If you buy online the process goes through an agency and - this is the really unforgiveable park - you still have to join what an be a long line simply to swop your mobile phone QR code for a physical ticket which you then have to show again immediately afterwards to enter the museum itself. One ancillary thing to know: there’s a ferociously expensive outside cafe serving coffee and sandwiches but - I usually - the high price I’d matched by high quality. Really good and creative fast food.

Peggy Guggenheim's Collection has to be a 'must see' when in Venice. But, remember to buy your ticket in advance to avoid huge lines. Also, there is a stunning rooftop cafe with a view of the grand canal for a refreshing rest after viewing the collection. The art speaks for itself. Her taste was right on target, every piece is special and reflects many different styles.

This is my second visit to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and honestly it's my favorite art gallery/museum in the world. I first came 20 years ago, when it was less frequented and it was an absolute joy to wander through. You have to buy her book and read about her outrageous life, it's makes the collection that much better! The fact that it is housed in her home makes it even more special. This time the visit wasn't as enjoyable, it was just soooo crammed with people that it was difficult to move around comfortably, and to take your time to view each piece. It's one of those places where you hope they start to limit the daily number of visitors (perhaps increase the price to offset this).
