Full description

Experience a romantic sightseeing tour by bus and boat from Vienna, introducing you to the beauty of the Wachau and Danube Valleys in Lower Austria. Visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk with a guide. In winter, enjoy lunch in place of the Danube boat trip.

Explore the River Danube as it flows around picturesque villages and steep vineyards. Pass by many ancient castles testify to the former importance of the river. One of these is the ruins of Dürnstein Castle, where, according to legend, Richard the Lionheart was kept imprisoned, and was eventually freed by his faithful minstrel Blondel. Then take a romantic boat trip along the legendary Danube (only in summer, in winter we offer you a lunch). In the old city of Krems, go to the heart of the Wachau wine-growing region, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural and agricultural history.

Then, follow your guide to the Danube River town of Melk. Visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, one of Austria's most famous Baroque buildings and its cultural and spiritual center.

The bus trip to the Wachau region was easy enough, and our guide was very fluent in multiple languages. The first stop in Durnstein was somewhat unimpressive, but nonetheless a nice way to break up the trip. The boat ride was very nice but the poor waitress didn't understand English and was thoroughly confused. :-) The Melk Abbey was wonderful and we enjoyed a nice lunch there. Note: Our reservation said lunch was included, but it was not. Apparently they do not include lunch in the summer so you are on your own. Overall, nice trip and beautiful scenery. I recommend this trip to anyone who wants to get out of Vienna and see the local surroundings.

The trip was nice, especially the Abbey at the end. The guide from the Abbey was super nice and funny! The restaurant (not included) was also great. The only thing that I miss is more connection with the guide and not just repeating his speech (tips and little stories). It was hard to follow with 3 languages at the same time.

The day trip to Melk Abbey by bus and boat on the Danube was well organized and informative. Our guide had a lot of information, everything went as planned. Only the tour of Melk Abbey would have to be conducted over headphones, as elsewhere in Vienna. The explanations were often difficult to understand. Otherwise, it was an all-round successful day and I can recommend this excursion.
