Guided Cycling Tour of York

2. Guided Cycling Tour of York

Explore the ancient city of York on a thoroughly modern bike with an entertaining and knowledgeable guide. This tour will take you off the beaten track to fascinating historic places you won’t see on a typical bus or walking tour. You will travel at a safe and leisurely pace, staying on cycle paths and designated lanes for most of the ride. York has always been a magnet for visitors. There were the Romans, of course, who first settled in the area in AD 71. In the 9th century, the Vikings dropped in for an eventful 200-year stay. The year 1068 saw the arrival of the besieging forces of William the Conqueror, and in the 17th century, York was a hotspot in the English Civil War.   Although today’s residents much more fun to be around, those of the past have all left their marks and their stories. Although factual, the cycle tours are designed as a good-humored look at the fascinating and often grisly past of York. The tours take about 2 hours, and our average traveling speed is 900 years an hour.

What people are saying about Yorkshire and The Humber

We have been travelling for seven weeks and in several cities. We participate in a cycling tour in each city we visit. The York cycling tour has been a highlight due to Cecil’s superior knowledge of of the area. The standard of his bikes were excellent as he uses some classics that are designed and built in the UK. A must while one visits York if cycling is your passion.

Our York cycling tour was fabulous. Cecil was a wonderful host and very informative. He connected easily with guests and the ride was always safe and suitable for all abilities. The bikes were well maintained, fit for purpose and a pleasure to ride. With the rich and interesting history of York, and it’s cycle friendly nature, I highly recommend York cycle tours.

Great tour. Easy cycling and Cecil was a great guide. He took us to the main tourist attractions but also off the beaten track to some more quirky places. He gave us lots of historical info, and also lots of local stories and was very knowledgeable. Lovely cycling along the river - lots of fun - I would highly recommend this tour.

Really was a highlight of York city break. Cecil fantastic, informative guide, who took us on (quiet) roads we would never have known to go down. Really helped get our bearings of city & learnt interesting facts. Thoroughly recommend you do!

This was an excellent tour Cecil is a lovely man passionate about York. Quickest two and a half hours spent and a fantastic way to see the city.
