It is a great way to get to see Plitvicie Lakes AND get transfered to Split from Zagreb. You do quite a few km at the lakes and the concept of starting at the upper lakes so you are walking down all day is genius. There is little time to spare and there is no way you would have time to buy food and eat it in the lakes. They do visit a restaurant after the lakes but that was around 4pm so I would recommend taking some sandwiches or snacks to eat before that.

We did a two centre holiday in Croatia, starting in Zagreb and ending in Split via the Plitvice Lakes which are en-route and should not be missed as they are stunning. We initially thought we would take the train from Zagreb to Plitvice, visit the Lakes and then catch another to take us to Split. However, as we had baggage with us we decided on this transfer. We met our driver Joseph at the Meteorological clock in central Zagreb who drove us to Plitvice where we joined a tour of the Lakes with our tour guide Alena who was well informed, charming, helpful and very tall I may add, so didn't need to carry an umbrella for us to see her! It's worth going with a guide as you are taken to the highest point in the nature park where the lakes are then walk down. Afterwards we where driven by coach to Split and, as we were staying in old centre of Split, which is not accessible to traffic Alena gave us very good instructions to get to our guest house and places to eat & drink whilst there.
